Do I Always Have to Use Turtles?

You do not have to stick with only Turtles in StarlogoTNG.  There is a range of agents you can choose from, or it is even possible to create your own using 3D authoring software, although this requires some previous experience.  There is a tutorial on the official Starlogo TNG website on how to create your own agents.

To Change from Turtles

Go to Edit Breeds

You can create a new agent, or rename an existing agent.  Choose a skinned or unskinned model.  If you use a skinned model, you will not be able to change its colour within your Starlogo TNG program.

Editing Terrain

You can edit the terrain in SpaceLand using the Edit Terrain button found towards the lower right of the window.  Use your mouse to click and drag out a region, then use the terrain editing options which appear when you are in editing mode.

You can level or colour areas, and raise or lower their height.

Once you have edited the terrain, switch back to normal mode by clicking the Edit Terrain button again.
